Harbor Freight sells floor jacks under three house brands: PITTSBURGH (steel, general purpose), DAYTONA (professional/racing tier, often aluminum), and BADLAND (off-road, for trucks/SUVs/ATVs/UTVs). Nearly every model in the lineup uses their dual-piston RAPID PUMP® system, so the pump technology isn’t a differentiator, it’s the baseline.

What actually drives the price

• Aluminum vs. steel. The aluminum “Racing” jacks (PITTSBURGH and DAYTONA) cost noticeably more per ton than steel equivalents of the same capacity, e.g. the PITTSBURGH 3 Ton Low-Profile Aluminum Racing is $249.99 vs. $169.99 for the steel 3 Ton Low-Profile. The tradeoff is weight: aluminum jacks are meant to be carried to the track and back, not left in one spot.
• Low-profile costs more than standard. Within PITTSBURGH’s 3 Ton steel line, the standard jack is $149.99 and the low-profile version is $169.99. Low-profile buys you clearance under lowered or show cars, not more lifting capacity.
• “Professional” and “Superduty” trims add features, not just capacity. DAYTONA’s 3 Ton line spans $179.99 (Professional) to $269.99 (Long-Reach Low-Profile) to $289.99 (Low-Profile Superduty), all at the same 3 Ton rating, so the jump pays for reach, ground clearance, and beefier construction rather than more weight capacity.
• Off-road jacks are a different category entirely. The BADLAND jacks (steel, higher lift height, sealed ball bearings) are priced closer to $280-$380, well above comparable on-road jacks at the same tonnage, because they’re built for ground clearance and durability on rough terrain, not garage floors.
• Capacity isn’t the only price driver. The DAYTONA 4 Ton ($269.99) is cheaper than the DAYTONA 3 Ton Low-Profile Superduty ($289.99), so profile and trim level can matter more than raw tonnage.
• The 22 Ton PITTSBURGH is a different tool altogether. It’s air/hydraulic rather than a hand-pumped hydraulic jack, priced near the top of the lineup, and meant for heavier-duty shop use rather than typical passenger car work.
• The Cross Beam isn’t a jack. It’s a $69.99 accessory that pairs with a floor jack to spread the load across a vehicle’s frame, useful with lower-capacity jacks on heavier loads.

For a typical passenger car or truck in a home garage, the PITTSBURGH 3 Ton Low-Profile Floor Jack ($149.97-$169.99 depending on color/trim) is the one already on my tools list: steel, low-profile enough for most vehicles, and priced well below the aluminum racing or off-road options that most home garages don’t need.

PITTSBURGH vs. DAYTONA Professional: is the $30 worth it?

Both are steel, 3 ton, low-profile jacks with the same rating (4.8★), so it’s worth pulling the actual spec sheets to see what the DAYTONA’s “Professional” label and $30 premium buy you.

The DAYTONA’s extra $30 gets smoother-rolling ball-bearing casters and a rotating, removable saddle, real upgrades, not just a name. The PITTSBURGH’s only edge is a 1/8 in. lower minimum height, which won’t matter for most vehicles. Lift range, weight, and warranty are otherwise identical.
