Violette de Bordeaux Figs in San Francisco

06 Oct 2026 - Warren Mar

On October 6, 2026, I ate a Violette de Bordeaux fig grown in San Francisco. It reminded me of the Mission figs I ate as a child during the summer. On a stairway walk, I saw many fig trees growing in microclimate pockets. You can grow tasty figs in San Francisco. I tried a Desert King breba crop fig earlier in the year. It was soft, but tasted like grass. The main crop Violette de Bordeaux fig was much better.
