Book of the Week: Marijuana Gateway to Health

01 Feb 2014

Marijuana After the legalization of recreational marijuana in Arizona, I decided to learn more about the medicinal uses of marijuana by reading Marijuana Gateway to Health: How Cannabis Protects Us From Cancer and Alzheimer’s Disease by Clint Werner. Cancer and Alzheimer’s Disease Studies show that marijuana decreases the risk of cancer, even lung cancer. This is in stark contrast to tobacco. Makes you wonder why tobacco is legal, but marijuana is not. The effect of making marijuana illegal, lead to growing of strains that had high THC to CBD ratios. THC makes you high, but CBD may have more medical uses. People want to carry around less weed, so they grew strains that were stronger. I didn’t know there were so many strains with different ratios. Legalization of marijuana should improve the genetic diversity of the plant making it better for researching medical cures. Marijuana seems like a miracle drug. Maybe it will lead to a cure for cancer.

Ideally, NFL officials should provide players with a few inhalations from a joint, bong, pipe or vaporizer as they leave the practice and playing fields. Marijuana should be as common in the NFL locker rooms as are ice packs. If cannabinoids are the only remedy for this type of brain damage, which is an occupational hazard for professional football players, shouldn’t those players be encouraged to protect themselves with marijuana.

I’m having a hard time watching football, because all the concussions they suffer playing the games leads to brain damage. How can I enjoy watching people get brain damaged? That is like watching gladiators kill one another. If they were all required to smoke marijuana to protect themselves from brain damage, I would have an easier time enjoying the game. History There is a long legislative history of marijuana. People has used it historically, but propaganda, the war on drugs and a dash of discrimination put marijuana on the list of schedule I drugs. It wasn’t until marijuana got popular with AIDS and cancer patients that medical marijuana got legalized. Marijuana worked without bad side effects. One of the biggest proponents of medical marijuana is parents. If nothing else works except marijuana, who is going to stop a parent from giving it to their kid?

If the narcs think I’m going to stop baking pot brownies for my kids with AIDS, they can go fuck themselves in Macy’s window! - Brownie Mary, San Francisco General Hospital Ward 86 Volunteer

Side Effects Increased appetite and short term memory loss. Going to Taco Bell (YUM) at night? May lower sperm count, prevent implantation and slow growth of embryonic cells. Marijuana inhibits cancer by slowing fast growing cells. Embryonic cells grow fast, so a lot of marijuana is not good. Although a little bit will help with nausea. California farmers should consider growing marijuana since it is drought resistant.
