Artful Sentences: Syntax as Style

15 Oct 2026 - Warren Mar

This week I read Artful Sentences: Syntax as Style by Virginia Tufte, mommy of Edward Tufte of data visualization fame.

My English is shit. This gives me flashbacks to grade school work in Warriner’s English Grammar and Composition. It is nice seeing real world of examples of structure being put to use, but it is hard to digest it in a way that I can use. You need to be a student of the subject to gain maximium value. I’ll stick to reading The Elements of Style.
