Lavender Harvest

02 Dec 2023

Harvest in early blooms, early Spring in the early morning.

I haven’t been paying attention to when to harvest lavender since it grows without much care. It seems that if I actually want to use lavender I need to time when I harvest it. Harvest the plant when it is dry in the monring after the dew has dried.

For lavender tea, I need to pick the flowers before they fully open.

For a bouquet, I need to harvest when half are open, so it will continue to bloom.

The earlier in the bloom cycle, the more fragrance and essential oils. Lesson learned is that I’ve been harvesting too late, since I didn’t time my harvests.
